The Hong Kong Maritime and Port Development Board is a high-level advisory body to assist the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government in fostering Hong Kong’s status as an international maritime centre. Specifically, the Board should –
- conduct research and studies on port development, including strategies for strengthening port throughput, implementation of green measures related to ports in the Action Plan on Green Maritime Fuel Bunkering, and smart port development, for formulating policy recommendations to the Government;
- conduct research and studies on development of maritime services, including reviewing the latest status of the industry and identifying new growth points with action measures, for formulating policy recommendations to the Government;
- plan, steer and implement promotion and industry outreaching initiatives in overseas and the Mainland to raise Hong Kong’s profile as an international maritime centre and advance Hong Kong’s port and maritime interests, and formulate strategic promotional plans; and
- coordinate and implement talent and manpower development initiatives to address the needs of the port and maritime industry, including overseeing the implementation of the Maritime and Aviation Training Fund and devising new scheme to sustain the availability of trainers on new skills for the industry and the training of talents for green fuel bunkering.
